Pagasa: LPA nears Mindanao, E. Visayas; rain showers expected

MANILA, Philippines – A low-pressure area outside the Philippine area or responsibility (PAR) is triggering rain showers in many parts of Mindanao, the Visayas and parts of the Bicol region on Thursday, December 8, 2022, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja, in an early morning update, said that as of 3:00 a.m., the LPA was spotted sone 1,265 kilometers eat of Mindanao is expected to enter PAR on Thursday and swirl toward the Caraga region, Eastern Visayas and Bicoil region in the coming days.

Estareja said the LPA has a moderate chance of intensifying into a a storm. 

Meanwhile, cloudy skies and scattered rain showers are expected in other parts of the country due to the shearline, added Estareja.

Flash floods and landslides are possible in rain-affected areas, Pagasa warned.

Pagasa likewise raised gale warnings over the seaboards of Northern Luzon.

  • Baguio City — 16 to 24 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City — 23 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao — 24 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City — 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City — 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay — 22 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands — 27 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City — 27 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu — 26 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City — 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City — 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City — 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
